Welcome back. I'm going to assume that if you're watching this lesson, you got a sale. And if that assumption is correct, congratulations, There's nothing like that First sale feeling. You'll always remember where you were when you got that first sale. Me, I was in German class and I remember hearing a little cash register noise from my backpack. I was happy for the excuse to check my phone in the middle of class. And when I checked my Shopify app, I found that I had made my first sale.
By the way, if you want to hear that sweet sound on your phone, just make sure you download the Shopify app. It's completely free. Once you've made your first sale, obviously buy champagne, throw a party, invite everyone. But after that, make sure your customer gets the product that they ordered. To do that you need to place an order with your supplier telling your supplier to ship that product to your customer. This process is called fulfilling orders, and it's actually way easier than it sounds. I'll show you how to do this, but before I get started, just make sure that you're already logged into AliExpress and that you've got the Oberlo Chrome extension installed. Okay.
Let's fulfill an order together. First jump into your Shopify admin. As you can see, I have an order to fulfill it is an order that I myself placed with this store so that I could show you how to walk through this process to begin fulfilling an order. First click on the order. Now you'll probably see a button that says fulfill in Oberlo from your Oberlo dashboard, click orders to begin the fulfillment process where you see your customer's name, click order product that will redirect you to the AliExpress product page. And from here, you just sit back, relax and let the Oberlo Chrome extension do all the cooking it's magical.
It's like having someone else at the wheel, the extension should automatically add the customer's product to the car and fill out the customer's shipping information. If it doesn't just make sure that you don't have an ad blocker on that's blocking the extension. Now you're taken to an order review page, make sure the Chrome extension, put the right product with the right color and the right size and the right quantity into the cart.
Also make sure you double check the shipping option that selected sometimes AliExpress will pull a different shipping option than the one you yourself researched and decided you wanted to use. In the message section I recommend you add this bit of text I'm drop shipping please do not put any invoices, QR codes, promotions, or your brand name logo in the shipments. Please ship as soon as possible for repeat business. Thank you.
I'll include this message below this lesson so you can just copy and paste it once the order looks good, click place, order time for a quick recap. When a customer places, an order in your Shopify store, they're paying you for the cost of the product plus shipping plus whatever markup you added to the price. The funds that the customer pays, you will be added to your bank account minus a few cents in fees.
And that will show up in a few days or weeks, depending on your payment gateway. When you place an order with your supplier, you're paying for the cost of the product and shipping. Once Shopify deposits your funds, your profit will be your retail markup minus a couple cents in Shopify fees. Math wasn't my best subject either but when we talk about money, it becomes really exciting. Okay, now let's go to Oberlo just to check out how Oberlo tracks your customer's orders. Once you place an order with a supplier, that order is automatically updated in Oberlo. As you can see, the order button has been replaced with a processing button.
Suppliers need a few days to accept your order and ship it out. And this is known as processing time. When suppliers ship your order, they'll send you the store owner an email to let you know. With that you've fulfilled your customer's order. You don't need to do anything else to ensure that your product reaches your customer's doorstep. If you want your customer to be able to track their order, download the PDF below this lesson called tracking shipping, that PDF will guide you through the process of setting up an automated email flow that will send your customer a tracking number so they can see where their package is at, at all times.
I mentioned earlier that I would walk you through the process of handling returns and refunds returns and refunds aren't fun, but they're part of doing business. The good news is that when you get a request for a return or a refund, there's a good chance that you can get some of your money back from the supplier. I'll show you how to do that in the next lesson.
